There are a plethora of opportunities in the cassava plantations recently expanded in the state. Our state's interest is to be a major expoer of this arable cash crop. Exportation of cassava has already began to hit the international markets such as China and Malaysia. Aware of this huge foreign exchange earnings, our state is ready to welcome investors in the processing of cassava and it's byproduct. With over 1,450 Hectares of Cassava cultivated across the State and the introduction of newly improved cassava stem recently planted, yields are guaranteed every six months.
Journey so far
Intensive Cassava Cultivation: This project is necessitated by the continuous inux of cassava derivatives into Akwa Ibom State. There was need to expand production given the huge demand available in the State. The demand for cassava derivatives exceeded supply, and this resulted to price uctuation especially during off-season. About 450ha(2016) and 1,450ha (2017) of cassava has been cultivated in eight local government areas.
Cassava demonstration and multiplication Project (38ha): This project was set up to demonstrate the protability of cassava enterprise in the State. The sites are located at Ikot Okodom in Eket (15ha), Ishiet Ekim in Uruan (10ha), and Ikot Ekang in Abak (13ha) L.GA.
Cassava Processing Project (3 medium scale cassava processing mills): This is aimed at expanding value chain addition in cassava enterprise in the State. The project also focuses on increasing the market share of cassava derivatives from the State. A total installed capacity of 15mt/day is capable of producing garri, odourless fufu and cassava our. We are ready to welcome investors in this area.
